This case-control study aims to establish whether there is an association between exposure to benzene and lympho-haematopetic (LH) cancers among workers in the Australian petroleum industry. The study, which was established due to the finding of an excess of LH cancer in the main cohort study, is potentially of great importance to the epidemiology and risk assessment of LH cancer and benzene as it may provide a better understanding of the low-dose risk than is currently available from any previous studies.
