Healthwise Cancer Incidence & Mortality Study
The Healthwise Cancer Incidence and Mortality Study monitors employees' health over time to see if any differences exist in rates of death and cancer compared to the general community. Researchers can also examine whether there are any increased risks associated with particular types of work.
A list of all participating employees is used to search National/State Death and Cancer Registries, hospital registries, and other disease registries of interest. These searches will be conducted at regular intervals in the future to monitor the health of all Healthwise participants.
This study has already recruited over 11,000 employees who worked between 1983 and 2004, and will be continuing to recruit new employees who commence in the future. The information obtained from Healthwise is important in identifying any factors that may be risking the health of aluminium industry employees.
